For more than 15 years we have been transporting students to some kind of camp for our secondary student retreat. This year we took 300+ students (93% of secondary students) and 50 adults. I am absolutely amazed at how big this retreat has grown, but I shouldn’t be shocked. Pretty much by word of mouth alone, retreat has become something that our students don’t want to miss. Each year the Lord goes before us and prepares the ground for a great weekend.

This year we tackled the task of separating the junior high and high school students. Giving each group time by themselves, created two things. One, it gave us more space because we definitely needed it, and two, it helped these two bodies of students create culture and community within themselves.

Throughout the weekend we talked about who we are in Christ, and finding our identity in who we are in Christ and what he says about us, not what others say. Then we connected this into the building of the foundation of our faith. Matthew 7 tells the story of two men who built their houses on different foundations. One stood through the storms, and the other didn’t. If we are building a faith that is solid and has integrity, it starts with Jesus and us going through each day believing the promises that He gives us in his scriptures.

We finished our weekend Saturday night talking about how we can bring the Kingdom of God here. Our salvation is not just a future oriented salvation. We are saved for the future (eternity with God), but also for the present, getting to experience the presence and Kingdom of God right now.

In his book Garden City, John Mark Comer talks about the responsibility we have as believers to cultivate our corner of the garden in preparation for the second coming. Our session on Saturday ended with a challenge to flood the places we are in with little acts of kindness and love to push back against the great darkness that exists in our world. I encourage you to ask your students to share areas that they feel they can share little acts of kindness and love.  

What a weekend it was! I was reminded again of what a great place Logos Prep is. It is an amazing school, filled with wonderful families and awesome students who strive to do all things with Christ at the center.
