I once heard someone make the joke that in order to legally get behind the wheel of a car you have to take a class, have a ton of hours of practice and then pass a test, but when it comes to sending you home with your first child from the hospital they just make sure you are physically recovered and have a car seat. No test. No practice run. They just send you home with a tiny human and say “Congratulations! Good luck!”

After you are home, people who have gone before you in the parenting journey reach out in various ways to meet physical needs, lend a hand, give advice, etc., but there is nothing that can prepare you 100% for the parenting journey.

Not only do we have the honor, joy and responsibility of raising children, we also have the mandate to raise them in the ways of Christ. Depending on your own upbringing, some of us may have had good examples in how to do this and some of us may be starting from scratch.

As a certified University Model School, we now have access to a toolbox of resources from AXIS.org, through the National Association of University Model Schools (NAUMS).

AXIS equips parents for gospel-centered conversations with their teenagers about faith and culture. For years they have been doing the work of studying culture so you don’t have to!  They have taken the language of the culture and helped us adults understand it!  They have been looking at culture through the eyes of the Church, scripture and faith, and providing a deep, deep well of resources to families who choose to use it.

Next, starting this week and publishing every other week you will find a section in our newsletter entitled “Parenting Toolbox”. In this blog, I will share some links from the AXIS toolbox that will be grade specific-something for our younger Lions to our Senior Lions.
