Bringing Light To The Darkness

February 26, 2026
By Joel Gutowsky

In John 8, Jesus famously declares “I am the light of the world.” More often than not we take this and directly relate it to evangelism because the second part of that verse is about following Jesus and not walking in darkness.

Does Jesus bring an everlasting light into a dark world? Yes! Praise be to God.

By following Jesus, are we able to walk in the “light of life”? Yes. Praise be to God.

But here is something that I think we often forget about light and I think we forget about it because it can make us a little uncomfortable.

When light hits darkness the things that are hidden come out from hiding. If we are honest, we all have things that are in hiding. Things that we don’t want anyone else to see.

At Logos Prep our vision statement is ‘“Families and students making an impact for Christ.” If we are truly going to make an impact, one that shows people and invites people to a different way of life, to light instead of darkness, our lives need to be transformed and different.

In John, Jesus says that He is the Light of the world. In Matthew, He flips the script onto us and says that We are the light of the world, that we are a city on a hill.

If we are going to be effective at making an impact for Christ as individuals and as a school, it needs to be our hope that the dark areas of our lives are exposed to the light.

May the light of Christ in our life be something we long for. May it guide us to repentance. May it guide us towards Christ, and may the Light of Christ in us bring others to the light.
