Better Together

October 16, 2025

Here at Logos Preparatory Academy, we believe in a few fundamental truths about our community. We believe the best of each other, we treat each other with dignity and respect, and–here’s the big one–we believe we are all made in the image of God. This means that every person you encounter bears more than a passing resemblance to our Creator.

This, of course, is Scripturally based: Genesis 1:26 says, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.” (A couple of important things to point out here. First, it says “man” because ‘adam, the word used here, refers to both man and humankind. All people, male and female, are made in the image of God. Secondly, notice that lovely plural possessive adjective “our.”) We are all made in God’s image by a communal God. And this is wonderful news for many reasons! But acknowledging that truth isn’t enough; we must do something with it.

As James 2:19 tells us, even the demons believe–and they shudder at that truth. James’ point is that belief must compel action. If you believe that the people in your family, and by proxy the Logos Prep family, are made in the image of God…then what? How do we respond?

Warren Bennis, a former professor from USC (Cali, not Carolina), is one of the people to whom the following statement is attributed: “None of us is as smart as all of us.” A leadership guru, Bennis’ point is that we aren’t designed to do this thing alone. The person next to you matters just as much as you do. In fact, 3 John uses the word synergy to talk about the work of God, which is literally the concept that we are better together as a comprehensive sum of our parts that surpasses those individual pieces. And that leads me back to Genesis.

See, you were made in the image of a triune, communal God. Humanity was designed, in the beginning, to make the whole bigger than the individual could ever be. So I encourage all of us to take the opportunity to look at the people next to us–regardless of creed, color, gender, age, nationality, and so forth–as gifts from God to help us excel in this thing called life. Love each other well, and in doing so let your light shine brightly into this world, acting as a beacon to call more people into the family of God. As God showed us at the beginning of time, we’re better together!
